What Is Daruma?

Daruma, or “Dharma doll” is a traditional Japanese  figurine that symbolizes goal setting, perseverance,  and good luck.

Goal Setting
A Daruma begins with blank white eyes . When someone decides on a goal, they color in one of the doll’s eyes. Once the goal is achieved, they color in the other eye. This process serves as a visual reminder of the goal or wish, encouraging the person to work towards it with determination .

Perseverance
Daruma embodies the idiom “Fall 7 Times, Get Up 8 Times”. By nature of how it is balanced, and representation of the legendary monk, the Daruma will always get back up when pushed over. The doll acts as a reminder of how success comes from resilience to obstacles .
